The Synthetic Turf Council is seeking your input for presenters and topics for the 2018 STC Membership Meetings. This is your STC, so we encourage you to submit a technical session presentation or other educational ideas for 2018 and beyond. We want to ensure that your time and involvement at the STC meetings are of value.

Presentation Selection

All presentation proposals received on or before January 31, 2018 will be reviewed by the STC Program and Education Committees. Selection will be determined on appropriateness and interest of topic, level of content, comprehensiveness of session objectives and expertise of presenter. STC reserves the right to make recommendations for revisions of content within proposals prior to acceptance. Participation as a presenter is by invitation only after review of the proposal.  Presenters will be notified only of their acceptance. 

Compensation/Reimbursement

Requested honoraria are not guaranteed and will be confirmed directly by STC. STC Office Headquarters will contact speakers to negotiate honoraria. STC Members note: Travel, accommodation and meal expenses are the responsibility of any STC member. All presenters must register for the event on the STC website using the special promotional code sent by the STC Office.

STC's Non-Commercial Policy

STC Program Committee is seeking valuable educational sessions and are always critical of presenters or sessions that are self-promotional. STC policy requires that presenters do not use a conference session for commercial sales pitches, self-promotion or unwarranted criticism of a competitor. Presentations should only advance the educational process; sales pitches do not and are therefore not acceptable. Speakers are not permitted to distribute company promotional literature, brochures or sales materials in any form to attendees during their session. 

Continuing Education

As an approved provider of education with the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (LA CES), the STC qualifies the educational content of its Spring Membership Meeting so licensed landscape architects may earn continuing education credits.

Approval Criteria for LA CES

Continuing professional education providers seeking LA CES approved provider status for educational course offerings must meet the following criteria:

Registered courses must adhere to the LA CES definition of continuing professional education: Continuing professional education consists of learning experiences that enhance and expand the skills, knowledge, and abilities of practicing landscape architects to remain current and render competent professional service to clients and the public.

This definition should be viewed broadly to encompass the wide range of competencies and proficiencies needed by design professionals to perform in varied practice settings.

Registered courses must specify whether the primary subject matter qualifies as meeting the LA CES health, safety, and welfare (HSW) definition.

Seventy-five (75) percent of the course material must qualify under this definition for courses to be identified as meeting the health, safety, and welfare standard. (Learn more about the determining HSW classification.)

Registered courses must comply with LA CES guidelines in the assignment of professional development hours (PDH).  All courses must be at least 1 PDH in length.

Registered courses must be planned in response to the learning needs of target audiences and include clear and concise written statements of learning objectives/outcomes. Providers are required to include a minimum of three learning objectives/outcomes for each course.

Learning objectives/outcomes are written statements of what the learner is expected to accomplish as a result of the course. Following are some examples of learning objectives/outcomes:

  • Learn how to determine the major functions and components of a synthetic turf system.
  • Identify the factors that influence safety and performance.
  • Learn how to utilize an integrated design process in your project for maximum benefit.

Registered courses must use qualified instructional personnel in course development and delivery; include content and instructional methods that are appropriate for the intended learning objectives/outcomes; and use materials that do not contain proprietary information, are educational and generic in nature, and serve to reinforce the learning objectives.

Course instructors should have experience, knowledge, and credentials relevant to the course they are teaching. The instructor should not act as a salesperson to promote any products or services.

All course content and materials must be educational, and may not be commercial. The promotion or discussion of proprietary information is strictly forbidden during the course.

Responsibilities

All presenters are required to submit their final presentation to STC by no later than 4 weeks in advance of the conference date.
