Forrest Hill, MD – August 19, 2019 –  The Synthetic Turf Council (STC) and Europe Middle East Africa Synthetic Turf Council (ESTC) announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) in order to develop common interests in several key areas.

The MOU creates avenues of communication between the STC, ESTC and FIFA concerning STC and ESTC members’ core business in football (soccer) turf and FIFA’s Quality Programme. It brings attention to the compliance with standards, methods, guidelines and best practices by the members of each organization and discusses solutions to any challenges. It also enables the STC and ESTC to join FIFA’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) in the Observer Status (currently only reserved for World Rugby and Dr. Eric Harrison, an independent consultant with a long track record in synthetic turf). The TAG consists of representatives of the various FIFA Preferred Producers and FIFA Approved Laboratory Test Institutes, as well as representatives from FIFA licensees and member associations.

President and CEO of the STC Dan Bond commented, “The STC has welcomed the close relationship we have with ESTC and FIFA, as representatives have participated in STC Membership Meetings and on technical committees and work groups. This MOU will further enhance the open communication and collaboration between all three organizations and promote synthetic turf football (soccer) fields across the globe.”

Lastly, the MOU helps fulfill FIFA’s express objective of continuous improvement of the game of football (soccer) and promotion globally in the light of its unifying, educational, cultural and humanitarian values, and to draw up regulations and provisions governing the game of football and related matters.

The agreement will operate for a period of four years.
