SafeHaven of Tarrant County has for more than 35 years changed the lives of countless women and children caught in abusive relationships. SafeHaven’s passionate goal is to end domestic violence through safety, support, prevention and social change. Through locations in Arlington, Texas and Fort Worth, Texas, SafeHaven:

• shelters 2,750 women and children per year
• answered more than 52,000 hotline calls in 2011
• counseled and provided legal services to 3,278 women and children

On October 2, 2012, the Synthetic Turf Council unveiled a 5,700 square foot beautiful, safe, grass-like synthetic turf play field that it donated through the generosity of its member contributors for the children of SafeHaven of Tarrant County. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include Arlington Mayor Dr. Robert Cluck along with other local area VIPs, SafeHaven CEO Mary Lee Hafley, STC Chairman John B. Giraud and the Synthetic Turf Council President, Rick Doyle.

"We are committed to community wellness and environmental responsibility through the use of synthetic turf,” noted Rick Doyle, President of the Synthetic Turf Council. "Our members enthusiastically are coming together to build a play field for SafeHaven of Tarrant County, a shelter and support organization for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.”

For more than 35 years, SafeHaven has changed the lives of countless women and children caught in abusive relationships. SafeHaven’s goal is to end domestic violence through safety, support, prevention and social change. The organization has locations in both Arlington and Fort Worth.

"A child in an abusive situation often takes on a parental role in an effort to protect his or her mother,” said Mary Lee Hafley, CEO, SafeHaven. "A donated play field will allow a child to just be a child.”

Currently, synthetic turf is a rapidly growing alternative to natural grass applications by many playgrounds, schools and community parks in the U.S. and Canada in places where it is difficult or impossible to grow natural grass. Eco-friendly benefits include the conservation of more than six billion gallons of water annually and elimination of harmful pesticides and fertilizers.
