The Synthetic Turf Council was organized by a group of synthetic turf companies and professionals who came together to help unite competitors, promote synthetic turf, develop quality guidelines and serve as the trusted voice of the industry to assist buyers and end-users, federal and state agencies, and the media.

Since 2003, the STC actively assists buyers and end users with the selection, use and maintenance of synthetic turf systems in sports field, golf, municipal parks, airports, landscape and residential applications. It is a resource for current, credible, and independent research on the safety and environmental impact of synthetic turf, as well as technical guidance on the selection, installation, maintenance, and environmentally responsible disposal of synthetic turf. Membership builders, landscape architects, testing labs, maintenance providers, manufacturers, suppliers, installation contractors, infill material suppliers and other specialty service companies.

Through the continued support of its members, the STC realizes the significant efforts and accomplishments in the areas of advocacy, membership, education, and marketing. Like many trade associations, much of the STC’s success can be attributed to its extensive network of industry leaders and member programs, including the Public Outreach and Education Campaign, Community Service Project, Exhibitor Showcase, Awards Program, Certification Programs.

In 2022, the STC Board of Directors approved a three-year strategic plan, including an updated mission and vision. Taking into consideration the feedback from the current board, former board members, past chairs, committee members, stakeholders and staff, the new mission and vison are as follows:

2023 marked the STC's 20th anniversary. Our annual theme, "The Power of STC Starts with You," emphasized the importance of individual responsibility and action in achieving the goals of the larger organization, highlighting that the power of our association truly starts with each and every member. Whether you've been with us for 20 years or just one, everyone comes together as industry professionals to make a greater impact.
