STC Emphasizes Commitment to Guidelines for Synthetic Turf Performance

Atlanta, GA, March 23, 2016 – The Synthetic Turf Council is dedicated to serving as a resource for trustworthy information about synthetic turf. Our objective is to encourage, promote, and facilitate better understanding among all parties involved in the maintenance, selection, delivery and use of today’s synthetic turf systems. To that end, we make every attempt to dispense information that is neutral, objective, and validated by independent current and credible research.

It is with this background that our Guidelines for Synthetic Turf Performance were crafted. With careful consideration and vetting from industry professionals, these guidelines identify several components that should be considered when selecting a synthetic turf system. The testing standards for each component - including fiber - are compiled from widely accepted ASTM or FIFA/EN methods.

The STC highly cautions any end-user against basing their specification or selection criteria on a single component or one that utilizes testing methods not recognized by nationally accepted, peer-reviewed standards adopted by the synthetic turf industry.  Without these safeguards, test criteria that cannot be replicated in independent settings around the world are considered to be subjective.

About the Synthetic Turf Council

The Synthetic Turf Council was founded in 2003 to promote the industry and assist buyers and end users with the selection, use and maintenance of synthetic turf systems in sports field, golf, municipal parks, airports, landscape and residential applications.  The organization is also a resource for current, credible, and independent research on the safety and environmental impact of synthetic turf, as well as technical guidance on the selection, installation, maintenance, and environmentally responsible disposal of synthetic turf. Membership includes builders, landscape architects, testing labs, maintenance providers, manufacturers, suppliers, installation contractors, infill material suppliers and other specialty service companies.
