“The Synthetic Turf Council (STC) condemns the illegal dumping of turf reported in Baltimore’s Mount Clare neighborhood. Abandoning this material in a community is reprehensible, irresponsible, and wholly inconsistent with the practices and standards STC promotes and advocates for.
“Our guidance makes clear that project owners and other responsible parties must ensure removed synthetic turf is recycled, reused, repurposed or disposed of responsibly. Our members are committed to abiding by disposal laws and regulations and taking responsible steps to protect the environment, including supporting appropriate end-of-life management of synthetic turf systems.
“At this time, we do not know where this turf originated, who manufactured it or who was responsible for dumping it. We support the city’s investigation and efforts to identify the responsible party, and are available to assist as the city removes the material and restores the affected area.
“The Mount Clare community deserves accountability, and no community should be treated as an illegal dumping ground.”
