2018 Lifetime Achievement Award:
Mr. Lanny Bailey, Controlled Products
Lanny started in the turf industry in 1972 and established Controlled Products. Lanny was instrumental in developing numerous specialized turf products including improved synthetic putting greens and golf mats. He was a founding member of the STC and its’ first Chairman.
Lanny was instrumental in getting other suppliers within the industry to join the STC. He was an advocate of expanding the STC through collaboration between manufacturers, suppliers and the architecture design community.
He always encouraged other companies (manufacturers, builders, architects, specifiers, etc) to join the STC as a collective industry group.
He was part of a small group who originally approached the Carpet and Rug Institute to form a separate sub-association before changing direction and creating the STC.
Lanny worked with the Special Olympics in helping develop a specialized turf product designed to provide a handicap friendly product. Lanny also worked with these organizations:
- Human Society of Northwest Georgia
- Dalton Little Theatre
- United Way
- American Heart Association
Lanny was very well respected by all yarn suppliers and consistently worked to design new turf constructions, which fostered the growth of the turf industry.
