Many children in the Sugar Hill, Harlem New York area, are negatively affected by social and economic factors. The Madison Square Boys & Girls Club performs a critical role in the community by providing a safe environment for children to engage in healthy, fun mental and physical activities to enhance their teamwork and social skills.

SYNLawn New York was selected to install a 6,000 sq ft multi-purpose field on the open-air Club building roof. As a focal point of the community, the Boys & Girls Club field is a welcoming place for children to play, socialize, and exercise. Teaming up with the world-renowned architectural firm, Rogers Partners chose SYNLawn for this project for several reasons, including a long history of working together on high-profile projects throughout the city.

Selected for the job was SYNLawn's SYNRye synthetic grass in green, blue, yellow, and white, provided crisp edges and precise details, ensuring the field is just as eye-catching as it is functional, including a full-size custom logo. The durable nylon turf also offers an ASTM E108 Class A Fire-Rated grass surface meeting New York City's strict building requirements for rooftop applications as well as an unmatched manufacturer-backed lifetime warranty.

Challenges with this installation include involving traffic control in New York City, shutting down a street to crane up massive concrete pavers, 6,000 lbs of turf, UltraBase panels five stories in preparation for the install.

Every day, Madison provides thousands of children with a safe and positive environment, where fun is encouraged, and positive role models are plentiful. The addition of the synthetic rooftop field by SYNLawn will ensure a safe, clean, and healthy place for the Sugar Hill community to grow for future generations.
