2021 Landscape Installation of the Year Award: commercial Category
City Square - synlawn
Anastasia Phillips, owner of SYNLawn NY, and her team partnered with GDC Developers for the installation of City Square Rooftop Park in White Plains. The Ginsburg Development Company envisioned a lifestyle corridor that would connect residents to commuters in conjunction with the transit district development zone. The team was able to design and install a 35,000 square foot rooftop courtyard area that connects three buildings known as “Central Park of City Square, downtown White Plains.” Not only is the scale and complexity of the project important but the vision itself represents the best uses of synthetic turf. Projects such as this are often coveted but the detail, planning, and delivery are an altogether different approach deserving national recognition.
To achieve the goal of increasing activity in this public area, the team created an inclusive design concept that would accommodate the high-traffic areas that the park was going to receive. The SYNLawn New York team added leisure lawns, walking pathways, a two-tier putting green, bocce court, outdoor dining, and various lawn space in planted areas. Through the various elements, the installation ultimately improved the cityscape and impacted the surrounding neighborhoods by providing an excellent community gathering space that encourages people to get active, while also ensuring the area is aesthetically pleasing through the use of synthetic turf.
The rooftop courtyard used the following products: SYNTipede 343, SYNRye 200 Tan, Precision Putt, and Ultra Base. The project was challenging due to the logistics involved to connect this green space to the three buildings, and it required coordination with the City of White Plains, but the team rose to the challenge to create this unique space that will be enjoyed by the public for years to come. SYNLawn New York has years of experience completing complex installations like this one, which allowed them to successfully install a project of this magnitude.
