Bradenton Christian knew they needed to update their decades old sports facilities and approved of a $19 million sports complex after a generous donation from a local sponsor. The vision for the new sports facility grew from small upgrades to a large construction project involving a new gymnasium and a 230,000+ sq ft synthetic turf multisport field. The synthetic turf field was designed for football, soccer, baseball, and softball all on the same multi-sport surface. Space was limited so the solution was to create a custom layout with overlapping sports lines for an impressive multi-functional athletic area. The design-build construction of the athletic field featured storm drainage, base construction, curbing, and synthetic turf.
Bradenton Christian’s property was landlocked with a unique shape of usable space. The shape and design of the multi-sport field was a perfect solution to the list of their unique needs and requirements. There was the need for a durable and multifunctional sports surface that could facilitate the many different athletic programs and extracurricular activities for students and community members. The way the different sports lines overlap had to be thoroughly thought through to make the regulation dimensions work within the given area. The result was one large and completely unique turf field that could be host to over four different sports. The new synthetic field maximizes land use and increases access to sports and leisure.
"This project is really a blessing from God and a gift of time to our families at BCS," says superintendent Dan Vande Pol. "No longer will we have to start practice as early as 6am and finish practices late into the night as teams struggle to find time. This facility allows multiple teams to practice at once, allowing student athletes to then go home and have dinner with their families, prepare for class and just be kids."
