The Children's Museum of Indianapolis recently responded to alarming childhood and adult obesity rates by creating a new model of health and fitness for families called Riley Children's Health Sports Legends Experience. This permanent addition to the Children’s Museum features 7.5-acres of 12 outdoor sports experiences and 15,000 square feet of three indoor exhibits that encompass physical fitness. SYNLawn Indiana was hired to install 1.4 acres of sustainable, plant-based products to make part of the exhibit more inclusive, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing.
The SYNLawn Indiana team were asked to create a mini hockey rink and a running/walking track for visitors using the following: · 28,000 square feet of Sports Turf Blend in various colors with envirofills for three fields, which included custom logo designs for two exhibits sponsored by Indianapolis Colts and Subway. · 27,000 square feet of SYNPour for the track. · 2,500 square feet of SYNCourt with a custom Indy Fuel logo, which is a local youth hockey team, for the rink.
The installation took months to complete, with weather conditions posing a challenge to the team since it had to be completed during the winter months. The new rink replaced the old concrete one that had an issue of a bumpy surface due to painted lines. The team used SYNCourt to create a smoother flow for skates.
The one million-plus visitors that come to the museum now have an all-weather playing environment that blends in with the natural landscape thanks to SYNLawn Indiana’s efforts.
