The STC Sustainability Award recognizes an STC member company who consistently, and through innovation, utilizes sustainable materials and processes that work to minimize negative impact on the natural environment. 

This year’s recipient worked with Ohio University in Athens on a zero-waste construction project.

First, the infill was reused and wood pallets were sent back to the plant. Then, the old turf was upcycled into a shock pad, and the turf scraps into nailer boards. Recycled materials include cardboard, water bottles, scrap foam pad and supersacks.

The STC Sustainability Award recognizes an STC member company who consistently, and through innovation, utilizes sustainable materials and processes that work to minimize negative impact on the natural environment.

This year’s recipient took the initiative to demonstrate the retention of infill material on a synthetic turf sports field. It is the first sports field of its kind in the U.S. in response to the microplastic legislation in Europe. The risk management measure was the catalyst for the ESTC and STC’s adoption of the infill migration poster and checklist for field owners and contractors.
