Apply to Become a Committee Volunteer

Your VALUED ROLE

Volunteers play an integral part in the effectiveness, progression, innovation and success of the STC's vision, mission and purpose.

By serving on a committee, STC members have the opportunity to enhance their own professional development and benefit their companies through networking and knowledge sharing.

Committee terms begin in November and run through October (Annual Conference) and meet virtually on a monthly basis. Plus, we have micro-volunteering opportunities available!

STANDING COMMITTEES

  • Advocacy and Sustainability – Enhance marketplace acceptance, create a conduit for participation to resource local lobbying efforts

  • Knowledge – Refresh the annual conference and educational program, update technical guidelines, evaluate certification

  • Marketing – Develop communication conduits to carry our message into the marketplace and regional awareness to anticipate local issues

  • Membership – Increase membership and related revenue streams, develop clear value proposition that is meaningful to each member category

WHAT TO EXPECT

Please review the Committee Guidelines, including the strategic plan, committee responsibilities, roles, plan of work, and other organizational details.

Kick-off meetings will take place in November to review the strategic goals and objectives, and broadly discuss the priority projects for next year.

Committee meetings are held for 30 minutes to one hour per month as a status update for work in progress.

  • Committee responsibilities – Member volunteers should own all aspects of their strategic objective in their respective pillar, committee or task force. This includes owning agendas and running committee calls, updating the strategic plan tracker, providing monthly Board reports, and making recommendations for our programs, products and services.

  • Committee Chair responsibilities – The Committee Chair is chosen by the committee or appointed and confirmed yearly by the Board Liaison. Their role involves overseeing the defined goals, leading members in their execution, setting and confirming meeting schedules and agendas, ensuring minutes are recorded, and communicating information to the Board Liaison and staff.

  • Vice Chair/Secretary responsibilities – Fills in for Chair as needed. Assists with development of meeting agendas, records meeting minutes and submits minutes to Chair and staff within 1-3 days after the meeting (or end of week). This role will also support committee members as needed.

  • Micro-Volunteering – Get involved with our Annual Conference through these quick and impactful micro-volunteering roles! Each opportunity is designed to fit your schedule while making a big difference.

If you are considering running for the Board in the future, candidates are recommended to have a record of participation on STC committees, including a Chair leadership role.
